Sonny's Story: Sonny grew up with his mother, a Yorkie, 7 children and cats in a busy household! His owner took him to be Put to Sleep and when the vet refused he stated he would go to another vets. He hadn't done anything just wanted him gone. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Sonny is now neutered, chipped, and undergoing vaccinations. Sonny came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our Dog Homing Questionnaire. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Sonny's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

I have a new, very handsome and polite lil friend… Sonny! Oh he’s just a beautiful boy. I spent an hour in his kennel yesterday just getting to know him as he was understandably nervous, and today we just had a short walk around kennel grounds where he saw (from afar) some new people and dogs which he didn’t react to at all. He seems nervous to meet new people and will lean against me but he will go for a sniff… especially if you have food! I hope this big pup isn’t with us for too long and can find his forever home soon. He’s a very sweet angel boy

Oh Sonny! You are a sweetheart. I met this boy for the first time today. I went into his kennel where he was very nervous
but after about 20 minutes we became friends. We went on a walk and then had some time in the paddock. This boy needs to learn to trust people again but in time I have no doubt that he will grow and blossom into a lovely boy

Met new arrival Sonny today so started by sitting in with him until he came over to me and I got some face washes
I gently put on harness and leads and we had a walk along the lane.
We didn’t pass any dogs but he saw Emily and Sabrina and was very happy to see them.
Early days but I think this boy is going to be very popular with the walkers until he finds his forever home.
Well done Sonny for being so brave and welcoming.

Walked the gorgeous Sonny today. The love I have for this dog grows and grows more each time I see him. He really is the perfect boy. He walks amazingly on lead no reaction to anything. He can be nervous but he just stands still and watches rather than reacting. I cannot wait for this boy to find his forever family because he will really fill there life with joy
Love you Sonny boy xxxx

Sonny and I have been going for walks recently
And I’ve so enjoyed getting to know him. He is coming out of his shell in his kennel and gets very excited to get out and shows this by jumping up. When you’re out though he’s a quiet, gentle dog who walks really well and ignores other dogs even when they’re trying to get his attention. He’s a beautiful dog with a lovely temperament, I’ve so hope he gets his furever home soon.

I walked the magnificent Sonny today. What a splendid, gentle boy. Very friendly when I entered his kennel, easy to harness ( he got in a few crafty licks), ignored the other dogs around him while exiting, and off we went (slowly). We walked in the company of Heather, and they were very relaxed about each other. Didn’t matter who was in the lead. Sonny took no notice of passing dogs, didn’t react to passing horses or bicycles, and we had slack leads throughout; no pulling.
Sonny had a lovely paddle, and drink, in the stream and was a dream companion.
Such an easy walk. Love this boy

From the dog who first came in and cowered in the corner of his kennel not even wanting to be close to me to now jumping up for cuddles and kisses when I enter his kennel. Words can’t explain how proud I am of this boy to see how far his come in just a couple of weeks.
He’s fairly easy to harness once he’s got over the excitement of seeing you. He walks out ignoring all the other dogs around. His lead manners are almost perfect and very rarely does he pull. I get regular check in looks from him where he’s just checking i'm still there and all is okay.
Sonny is a dog who can take a few meets I would say to learn to trust you, he is definitely getting better and has started going up to people for treats. I think as time goes on he will realise no one is out to hurt him.
He is the MOST affectionate dog, he gives cuddles , kisses and just wants to be in the presence of the people he loves.
I cannot wait for this boy to find his forever home as he will make someone extremely happy and be their bestest friend.
Until that happens Sonny, I will love you like my own and continue to watch you grown into an amazing dog
