Current Status: Homed
Summer's Story: Summer was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Kent council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Summer will be neutered, chipped, and undergoing vaccinations. Summer came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our Dog Homing Questionnaire. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Summer's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Re: Summer Saluki Lurcher DofB 05.06.19 RRemedies Centre
Me and Amy met Summer today and she is soo lovely! She was happy for us to come in her kennel and harness her up, she was even a bit cheeky and stuck her head in my treat bag to nick one
we went to the paddock where she had a good sniff and enjoyed some gentle strokes - she has very soft fur! We then went for a walk around the grounds where a few other volunteers gave her strokes and treats which she enjoyed! She also saw a couple of dogs which she didn’t seem bothered by.

Summer and I went for a gentle stroll round the kennel grounds yesterday.
She greeted me so nicely in her pen and let me harness her easily before our little stroll.
She loved being out in the grounds especially when we met some walkers who offered her treats and gently stroked her.
Summer is truly beautiful with a lovely, gentle nature. She has clearly missed out on love and affection before coming to the rescue but I know she will get more than her fair share of both while she is with RR and then when she finds her own home.
Lovely girl.

I walked summer again yesterday and she is so gentle and lovely! We took a walk to the poets hut where she sniffed around and hopped up next to me on the sofa where I gave her a chew. We got caught in a hail storm so we sat there for a while and she enjoyed some strokes and you could tell she wanted to relax but isn’t quite at that stage yet! Ignore all the leads, they’re just a precaution currently but I haven’t had any experience of her getting scared and trying to back out her harness.

Re: Summer Saluki Lurcher DofB 05.06.19 Whyteleafe Temp Foster
I collected Summer yesterday for her Easter foster break. Despite not knowing me, she readily got into my car and travelled really well, spending most of the journey curled up on the back seat. After a quick check of the flat, she settled onto her dog bed and has taken all the changes and new experiences in her stride.
Summer has, so far, been an amazing house guest. She appears to be fully house-trained, hasn’t taken or chewed anything, enjoys relaxing, and is extremely calm and friendly. Apart from a toilet break, she slept through the night on her bed. While generally quiet, she will use her voice to let me know if she wants something!
She loves going out and seems equally happy whether we are in the woods or walking along busy roads. She was completely unfazed by a very noisy motorbike being started nearby. She is extremely easy to walk, as she waits patiently to be harnessed and then ambles along without pulling.
Her favourite thing in the world appears to be food—if I step foot in the kitchen, Summer appears instantly with a very waggy tail, just in case there might be something on offer! Despite her love of food, she isn’t possessive, hasn’t counter-surfed, and although she shows a little interest, she hasn’t begged or tried to take anything when I eat. Instead, she curls up and waits patiently.
I am already completely smitten with Summer and am enjoying watching her relax and seeing her confidence develop. She will make a perfect addition to her forever family and will bring them lots of love.

Re: Summer Saluki Lurcher DofB 05.06.19 Whyteleafe Temp Foster
Summer enjoyed her first visit to the Adventure Barn, taking everything at her own steady pace – lots of sniffing and exploring, but no racing around. She became confident enough to climb on some of the equipment, but never strayed too far away from me.
At the moment, Summer usually ignores everything when we are out on our walks, whether that’s other dogs, people, traffic, horses or birds. When asked, she will calmly watch them go by before carrying on. This morning, she was very interested in – and excited by – a family of squirrels running around, and did pull towards them (although she didn’t bark or growl). However, this was easy to manage, and she quickly returned to her relaxed stroll around the park.
We have also walked alongside an older, calm dog to see how Summer would react. After an initial quick sniff, she walked beautifully, essentially ignoring the fact that they were even there.
I feel very lucky to be fostering Summer – she really is incredibly easy to look after.

Summer continues to be the perfect house guest and a lovely companion. She loves going for walks and being out and about but, once home, is content to simply relax. She now enjoys being stroked and having tummy rubs.
She’s a gentle and well-mannered dog who seems to cope well with new people and experiences. On a recent visit to my dad, she was calm and friendly, happily accepting fuss and a treat or two.
We visited the Adventure Barn again today and Summer took everything at her own laid-back pace—content to sniff around and enjoy a spot of sunbathing.
Summer would make a calm, gentle addition to a loving home.

Summer continues to be an absolute delight to foster – she is very gentle and easy-going. She attracts attention wherever we go and calmly accepts all the fuss and strokes she receives.
Apart from mealtimes, her favourite pastime is chilling out, usually sprawled on her bed. She’s still discovering how to play, but she has chosen a toy carrot and loves nothing more than curling up with it – which is very cute to see!
Most long-lasting chews do not last very long with Summer, but every now and then she surprises me by saving one for later. This involves an entertaining routine of pouncing around it, carrying it off, and then very carefully “burying” it for safekeeping somewhere in the flat.
Out on walks, Summer doesn’t pull and naturally matches my pace – whether that’s a gentle stroll or a brisker walk. With that in mind, I think she could easily turn her paw to being a running buddy if her future owner was looking for one!

We spent a lovely morning at the beach today – it certainly blew the cobwebs away! As usual, Summer travelled brilliantly in the car; she just curls up and you don’t hear a sound from her, and she took everything in her stride once we arrived. She really enjoyed paddling in the shallow rock pools, calmly interacting with off-lead dogs who came to say hello, and accepting strokes and pats from other walkers.
She behaved impeccably in the café, waiting patiently for me to eat my breakfast before demolishing her dog sausage. While she was happy to enjoy a long walk, once home she immediately went back to chilling out.
Summer is such an easy, gentle companion who takes new experiences in her stride and just wants to be by your side. She would make a wonderful addition to a lucky home looking for a calm and well-mannered girl.

I took Summer with me when visiting friends, and she again took the new environment and people in her stride. After a quick explore of the garden and downstairs rooms, she happily settled on the seat she was invited onto, enjoying a soft toy she was given, and stayed there for the duration of the visit. The perfect house guest!
