Janet's Story: Janet was found abandoned and unclaimed within a East Midlands council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Janet will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Janet is coming in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our Dog Homing Questionnaire. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Janet's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust. Original referral information: Hi Lynne can you help a beautiful 2 year old Cane Corso at high risk of put to sleep this week. These dogs are so difficult to place but I think you take them whenever you can. Please can you help this sweet girl Mx

I said hello to Janet today and she was very sweet.
She took treats very gently and was happy for me to stroke her.
Look forward to meeting Janet properly soon.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
What a wonderful girl our sweet Janet is. She’s quite small for a mastiff but it definitely feels like she has room to grow still, being only 2 and all.
Slightly nervous of sudden hand movements so made sure to keep calm when putting leads on her and let her sniff them when she was a bit unsure.
In the video I call her a piglet
she absolutely loves her food and we did a nice scent game with them in the paddock after she’d finished her zoomies. Considering she wasn’t overly confident in her kennel, not massively shy just a bit unsure, I was pleasantly surprised when she joined me on the bench for a cuddle. Really warmed my heart. She seems to be a bit curious about any noise and didn’t seem bothered about any dogs that we saw. I think once she’s been with us a while, she will show more of a cheeky side! Can’t wait to meet you again sweet girl, hopefully it won’t be long until you’ve got your home.

Oh Janet
. You were tucked away in your bedroom and didn’t want to come out at first. I waited patiently and you popped your head out to check me out. I was so taken aback when you came over to me and pushed your body into my legs as if to say a big hello. My heart melted. She has her harness on, so clipped leads on and off we went. Took a sunny stroll into the village. Lots of unsure noises (strimmers, lawn mowers) and gradually getting used to her new surroundings. Very loving and looks for reassurance a lot. Not bothered at all by other dogs and people. I have my fingers crossed she will have that safe new home soon. Oh. Not to forget, she has a touch of kennel cough too so please be aware of that.

I was very excited to meet Janet properly today so she was my last walk of the day.
Janet is a little nervous at the moment with it all being new to her but she welcomed me in and was very good while I clipped leads on.
She exited kennel area with no issues.
We had a wander down the lane where Janet was really sniffing and investigating every leaf and blade of grass.
A noisy car rumbled past which made her jump a little so I reassured her and decided to go back to the grounds and see how she was.
We passed a dog having lots of fun in the paddock which she stopped and watched for a few seconds but then wanted to move on.
I tried to get some pictures but she didn’t want to stay still and I didn’t want to stress her out so we just pottered about.
Janet is very gentle and likes gentle cuddles and reassurance she is going to be very popular with our walkers.
Cant imagine her being with us for long.

Oh Janet you heart stealer
What an absolute sweetheart Janet is, she is still a little nervous so strange noises can make her jump a little but she is so petite it is not a problem.
I kept reassuring her while we were walking which seemed to help.
Janet also gives a very good sit and paw
I think she would enjoy one on one training.
Janet met two new walkers who were totally wowed by her gentleness and affectionate nature.
I will be jumping at every opportunity to walk her and tell her how beautiful she is and that there is someone very special out there waiting to adopt her.

Janet was my choice of dog today for a new walker.
Danny read her notes so knew she would be a little shy getting harness and leads on but with gentle hand movements we were soon on our way.
Janet walked beautifully with a lot less nervousness and definitely more confident.
Again we met some volunteers who had not met her previously and she took it in her stride and was very friendly.
We decided to try Janet in the paddock and she was doing zoomies then running over to us.

Janet is getting more confident by the day.
Just a couple of minutes to get her ready today.
We did our usual walk along the lane and went around the corner and just stood for a few minutes while a few cars passed and Janet was perfectly happy.
Then on to the paddock so we could play fetch which is a work in progress as it seems I am doing most of the running around as she doesn’t bring the balls back.
No matter to me as spending time with this very gentle and precious girl is worth every minute.
Reluctantly I took Janet back and there was a makeshift sofa in her bedroom so she was very happy.

Sweet Janet came to stay with us for the weekend and she is a pocket rocket, full of puppy like energy and ready to meet new people.
Janet is quite small for a cane corso, so perfectly manageable, and when we met her she was very pleased to see us. It was a bit of dance to get her harness on as she was very excited but once it was on, we clipped in the leads and she was ready to go.
Janet travels well in the car, enjoying having her head sticking out of the window or poking her head between the seats to see where we are going.
At home she is very bouncy and energetic, of course part of this is decompressing from kennels but she does enjoy being active. She could do with a bit of refinement with table manners as she loves her food and everyone else’s
although she will sit and give a paw if there is the chance of a treat on offer.
Out and about she is great on the lead, not too strong and regular check back on her walker and anyone else who is there as well. She is keen to play with dogs and will jump around tail wagging, with a lovely temperament. If an off lead dog runs at her, she will give a little bark, but it’s not aggressive. She absolutely loves meeting people and was very popular with everyone.
She enjoyed a good charge around the garden, chasing balls and doing zoomies and also went on a couple of longer walks which she managed easily.
She is a little jumpy with loud noises or sudden movement she is not expecting but is easily reassured with lots of talking and a cuddle.
Janet is amazing girl, who will grow in confidence in her own home. We hope she finds it soon as she is a real sweetheart.
