Current Status: Available
Aretha's Story: Aretha was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Northern council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Aretha is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Aretha came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our Dog Homing Questionnaire. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Aretha's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Re: Aretha Patterdale DofB 6.6.22 Overnight with transporter
The Derbyshire pound knew we had offered on her to save her and to cancel the put to sleep: However were adamant she had been with them 2 weeks over her 7 days and had to be out of the pound by this afternoon.
I emailed several people up North to see if they could stretch themselves and get her safe. Margaret a pound puller said give me the information Lynne I'll see what I can do. Nic the transporter who is travelling down with Teena the Chihuahua tomorrow happened to be on another journey and found he was on route with another dog only 20 mins away so screeched over to the pound and collected her. Nic is taking her home overnight and bring her down with Teena tomorrow.
Panic as somehow we had to get Aretha out of the pound today we did it ...but we need single pet fosterers the situation in Rescue is dire.

Re: Aretha Patterdale DofB 6.6.22 RRemedies Centre
I had the privilege of meeting little Aretha when she arrived with us yesterday and Lynne asked if I would like to take her for a walk
well that was my reaction and also Aretha's
she is just gorgeous. We popped a nice new red collar on her and a smart beige harness and off she and I went. She is the friendliest little girl ( we had to fidget a bit with the harness once it was almost on and there was no problem at all with these two strangers manhandling her). She's a very enthusiastic little girl and it was nose to the ground and tail in the air. She was also a very good girl, swift to respond to my "leave it" (dirty tissue she found in the wood) and "oh no I don't think so" (her attempt to roll in some fresh horse poo!!!) We passed 5 other dogs on our walk and she stood to one side and let them pass without a squeak - goodness I thought, what a little angel
we then met Billy as we were heading back into the rescue grounds and she decided to shout to get his attention, he was looking particularly handsome
. She was obviously very excited at arriving somewhere new, but all the indications are an enthusiastic, happy, friendly little girl, with a very long tongue (see picture below). Thank God Lynne managed to save her, she is going to bring such sunshine and joy into some lucky family's life.

I met the gorgeous Aretha today - OMG what a Pattie
She’s a softie, good for a cuddle and lean in, very happy being handled and we even managed a ‘sit’ eventually - well everyone and everything is very exciting when you’re the new girl on the block !
Couldn’t choose from my pics so you’re in for a load ! You’ll have to forgive me, you know how I LOVE a patterdale xxx

Aretha and I had a nice walk this morning. She is pretty and she is friendly but she is also very, very bouncy and was a bit all over the place at the start of the walk. Life must be very confusing for her at the moment and she must wonder where she is. Let's hope her stay with us will be a short one so she can finally settle and find people who love her and who are prepared to let her be the centre of their lives.
Once away from the kennel grounds and into the woods she spent a lot of time sniffing - everything - every blade of grass, every twig - it was almost as if she hadn't been outside for a long time.
We came across other RR dogs and she showed no reactivity. I hope this does not change.
Later on in the day she saw me walking past her pen and came rushing to the pen door hoping for some nice treats - of course she got these - with a face as cute as hers it would be hard not to give her some!

Re: Aretha Patterdale DofB 6.6.22 RRemedies Centre
First time meeting Aretha today and she was delighted to see me coming and happy for me to enter her kennel.
She is a speedy little girl but no bother passing all the big dogs having a look to see who was there.
We walked around the grounds but she clearly has been to the paddock so wanted to go in.
Aretha was off like a rocket she is a very busy lady sniffing and playing.
I finally got a reasonable picture but Sarah's pictures of her are beautiful and really capture her.
She was happy to be fussed.
Aretha went back to her kennel easily and seemed contented.
What an absolute sweetheart she is.

I met Aretha last week and what a pleasure it was. Super friendly and full of curiosity on her walk. She doesn't pull but lets you know that time is of the essence when discovering new smells and sights. Everyone we met she wanted to say hello to. Whoever decides to make Aretha part of their family is very lucky to have such a friendly, funny little mop head, (she is adorably scruffy)
Re: Aretha Patterdale DofB 06.06.21 Horsham
(Since returned)
David took Aretha out of her kennel and she rushed over to Tim and Mo to say hello. 1 hour later and there were smiles to had. Aretha is going to be cared for by Tim and Mo who have had many terriers and in latter years 2 rescue Patterdales. They love and understand the breed.
Gem has a homing picture. David will comment.
I have had an update already and Aretha is very excited and finding her paws.
